Building HR Capability for Crisis Management
By Patricia Hamm,
Vice President, Global Human Resources, Imation Corp

Fortunately, most businesses and business leaders don’t experience major crises every day.  That’s the good news.  Unfortunately, when these crises do happen, we often find ourselves unprepared to handle them.  This experienced HR executive was leading the HR function for a well-known organization that went through a significant crisis that was publicized in the news, media, and by word of mouth throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area.  She will share the challenges and lessons learned so that participants can learn from her experiences. Patricia will also discuss how managing a corporate crisis aligns with change management and how HR professionals can lead that type of effort in our own organizations.

The objectives of this session will enable participants to be able to:

                                                                                                                               1. Define the frame of reference for "a crisis moment"
                                                                                                                               2. Understand the importance of always having a plan
                                                                                                                               3. Learn leadership competencies needed in crisis
                                                                                                                               4. Learn from lessons shared during crisis moments

BREAK-OUT SESSIONS

Organization Development as a Strategic Imperative for HR
By Dr. Steven V. Manderscheid, Chair,
Master of Arts in Human Resources Management

There is little doubt that HR has become a more complex and strategic role in organizations.  This increased complexity requires HR professionals to be effective change agents -- people who recognize restraints to organization progress and make things happen.  In the past, OD was a skill set reserved for a roving external consultant or internal training and development professional; today OD is an integral part of an HR professionals skill-set.
In this workshop, participants will learn about the field of OD and further be able to recognize how OD adds value to the role of an HR professional and in turn, how it contributes to improved business performance and bottom-line results.
