Vice President Diversity

 

The Vice President Diversity is responsible for assisting with ensuring that HRP-MN is an inclusive organization and for ensuring that HRP-MN membership is informed on current diversity issues related to human resources. The Vice President Diversity presents issues and articles to HRP-MN members and the Board related to multi-cultural diversity as well as issues related to other special interest groups, such as employees with disabilities, in the workplace.  This position reports to the President.

Duties

  • Keeps members abreast of all legislation related to diversity in the workplace.
  • Coordinates one or more activities that are specifically related to diversity issues.
  • Provides feedback to the HRP-MN board regarding membership climate in regard to providing a welcoming environment, in comparison to external benchmarks.
  • Identifies diversity HR organizations and determines how HRP-MN can interact/coordinate.
  • Contacts diverse members personally to encourage their involvement in HRP-MN.
  • Maintains budget records and provides budget request for next fiscal year.
  • Works with Vice President Membership to provide names of potential new members.
  • Encourage Board members to consider the advantages of a culturally diverse board and committees.
  • Maintain and update diversity information on the HRP-MN website.
  • Provides leadership and direction for the HRP-MN Diversity Committee through the Diversity Committee Chair.

 

Committee Interface

  • Programs: Coordinates diversity topics at least once per year. Attends Program Committee meetings.
  • Diversity: Attends committee meetings whenever possible. Provides leadership and direction.
  • Professional Development: Coordinates mini-conference speakers as needed.
  • Update  Co-Editors: Provides summary of Diversity Discussion Group meetings and book reports, in addition to other diversity topics, on a monthly basis.
  • President: Keeps informed on all activities.

 



Calendar

  • Annually: In coordination with Program Committee Co-Chairs, develops at least one monthly program meeting designed to address issues related to diversity in the workplace.
  • Monthly: Provides one main article for UPDATE on a workplace diversity topic.
  • Monthly: Attends all Board meetings.
  • August: Begins planning for the Multi-Cultural Forum, traditionally an in-kind sponsorship event for HRP-MN. This event is typically held in February.
  • December: Begins to circulate information about the Multi-Cultural Forum to HRP-MN members at a discounted rate due to HRP-MN’s in-kind sponsorship.

 

Special Information

  • The Vice President Diversity updates the Diversity Statement for HRP-MN (follows), as needed.
