President

The President of HRP-MN leads the activities of the organization from July 1 - June 30. This position represents one year of a three-year commitment. The first year is served as President-Elect, the second year the duties listed below are performed, and the third year is served as Past-President. NOTE: Under the Bylaws, each year the individual must be re-elected to the Board of Directors and to the subsequent officer position in order to serve.

The role of the President is to oversee all activates with the goals of maintain and increasing overall membership, participation, and retention, providing high quality programs on current issues, educating members about HRP-MN, continually improving the diversity of membership and participation, increasing visibility of HRP-MN in the community, and building and maintaining team spirit of the Board of Directors.

Duties

  • Plans and conducts monthly Board meetings.
  • Establishes and distributes Board meeting agendas, monthly meeting and other deadline schedules to Board members.
  • Leads goal setting for the Board for each fiscal year and distributes the goals to Board members, tracks progress and summarizes accomplishments at the end of the year.
  • Opens/conducts monthly program meetings, welcomes guests and speakers, and gives announcements or introduces HRP-MN committee chairs who have announcements.
  • Ensures that ethical standards and practices are maintained by HRP-MN members, and follows up on any questionable activity in person.
  • Serves as a resource and provides direction as requested by Board members and general membership.
  • Represents HRP-MN to other groups and associations within the business community, when requested.
  • Ensures responsibility for up-to-date Board member roster is assigned.
  • Oversees maintenance of budget records and approves budget forecast for next fiscal year.
  • Conducts activities to ensure a smooth transition for the incoming Board, including transferring of reference materials (e.g. provides a checklist for outgoing Board members to follow with their replacements).
  • Signs contracts pertaining to meeting facilities, catering arrangements, association management, in-kind sponsorships, and all other written agreements related to the cost of running HRP-MN.
  • Oversees financial matters, working closely with the Vice President Finance and Assistant Vice President Finance. Stays in close contact with budget issues on an ongoing basis through the year.

Calendar

  • August: Leads in the establishment of organizational goals.
  • January: Conducts a mid-year Board retreat, a half-day event, to review progress toward goals.
  • June: Assists the President-Elect in presenting a vision for the new year to the Board at the June Board Retreat (a half-day event). Helps ensure smooth Board transition for President-Elect by preparing a Board Transition Checklist and by ensuring that all newly-elected Board members have had an opportunity to meet and exchange information with outgoing Board members.

 

Committee Interface

  • Consults with committee chairs as needed, but primarily works with elected HRP-MN Officers.

 

Special Information

  • Don’t try to do this all yourself – ask for help. The Past President is the main source of support to the new President. If that individual does not step in, the previous Past President is the next level of support.
