Past President
The position of Past President is to assist and counsel the President. It is part of a three-year commitment of President-Elect, President, and Past-President and requires re-election each year.
Duties
- Chairs the Nominating Committee and presides at all Nominating Committee meetings–this committee should include the President –Elect and the President.
- Reviews and verifies membership status of nominated candidates prior to determining the slate of nominees.
- Presents the slate of persons nominated for elected offices to the membership; develops ballot process. Monitors ballots and announces the new Board members.
- Coordinates and conducts the installation of newly elected officers (see ballot sample).
- Provides project coordination as needed for the President and the Board.
- Acts as back-up for the President-Elect regarding the semi-annual survey, to be conducted every other year.
Calendar
- January: Contacts Nominating Committee members and begins gathering names of members interested in running for Board and Committee Chair positions.
- February: Works on long-range plan with President-Elect.
- April: Finalizes slate of candidates for the next year’s Board position.
- May: Prepares slate of Officers and Committee Chairs to submit to general memberships for elections; coordinates balloting process; conducts election; tallies results. Contacts incoming Board members regarding upcoming June Board Retreat when all will meet and cross-train.
- June: Plans and schedules installation of new Board at August meeting.
- July: Conducts installation of new board at regular HRP-MN meeting.
Special Information
- The Past-President may serve as a “special projects” coordinator for the President and the Board.
- Special attention should be given to recruiting diverse Officers and Committee Chairs.
