College Relations Committee Chair
The College Relations Committee Chair is responsible for building and enhancing the public image of HRP-MN in the college and university community, and for developing relationships within the academic community. This position of may be held by two people, but has one vote on the Board. The College Relations Committee Chair reports to the Vice President of Membership.
Duties
- Initiates contacts with the college and university community in the Twin Cities and promotes student membership within HRP-MN.
- Plans and conducts career information sessions with universities and colleges throughout the metropolitan area in which HRP-MN has established a partnership. Seeks to establish relationships with new academic institutions where there is no HRP-MN relationship.
- Primarily responsible for design, content and publication of HRP-MN College Relations brochures. Maintains supply of brochures. Coordinates with Vice President Membership to provide membership packets at student orientation sessions along with the brochure.
- Promotes informational interviews, job shadows, and mentoring through the College Relations program as an entry into HRP-MN for future human resource professionals. Solicits volunteers through HRP-MN publications to recruit seasoned HR professionals to provide these activities to College Relations student members. Monitors the activities and ensures outcomes for student members.
- Ensures that students understand the general guidelines for Student Membership:
- Currently enrolled at least half time in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Area of concentration must be directly related to human resources (examples are Industrial Relations, Labor Relations, Organizational Development, Organizational Leadership, Finance and Compensation, Occupational Health and Safety, or Strategic Management).
- Membership as a student is limited to four (4) years.
- Primarily responsible for engaging students in HRP-MN. Ensures that students understand the value of Student Membership:
- Monthly luncheon or breakfast programs featuring leading edge presenters.
- Development seminars and mini-conferences on current HR subjects/trends.
- The opportunity to participate on committees that connect you with other HR professionals and to make an impact on HR policy and programs.
- Internship and job posting opportunities through the HRP-MN web site.
- Enhanced future employment opportunities and professional relationships through networking with other HRP-MN members and students. Opportunity to attend HRP-MN Networking meetings on a monthly basis.
- The opportunity to job shadow, or be mentored by, an HRP-MN member.
- Maintains committee budget records and provides budget request to Vice President Membership for next fiscal year.
- Holds College Relations Committee meetings on a quarterly basis. Coordinates all volunteer activities of the Committee members.

- Provides monthly report of all activities and attends Board meetings when appropriate.
